Green: It's a State of Mind

THE GREENER THE CLEANER

Meat should fall into the “moderate” category of the human diet. We do not need it. However, it is one of the best sources of protein our planet has to offer us.
This blog is about maintaining a primarily vegetarian diet that throws a few servings of meat into your weekly meal plan.

There are a lot of diets out there that range from preparing meat everyday, to strictly eating plants and tofu ONLY.
There are not many that advocate the simple moderation of meat, which is where I found dietary success.

I have been on this "more plants-less meat" diet for a year now and it has made me feel better inside and out. What you put into your body directly affects your thinking, activity, energy, and overall bodily health. If you're putting the right food into your body then you're going to get the results that you want. This is true for me and it will be true for you too.

WHY LIMIT MEAT?

Meat is a great source of protein, but unless you are killing the turkey yourself, processed and/or meat enhanced for flavor or size is what you will generally come across at the grocery store. The American Cancer Society and World Health Organization have both released warnings about how harmful processed meat can be to your overall health. Processed meat contains carcinogens that can cause cancer, so regular consumption will increase one’s chances of getting one of the types of cancer that it can cause over time.

IT’S NOT THAT HARD

The transition to decreasing your meat intake and eating primarily natural foods like fruits and vegetables is the hardest part of this diet, and I am here to get you through it. Over the next few months you will find that a good diet is neither expensive nor difficult.
Egg whites, fruits, carbs (here and there), A LOT of vegetables, and the occasional chicken breast or slab of salmon for additional protein will become your dietary necessities.  I will be posting grocery lists, recipes, motivation, and the occasional informative post about why my way is the right way.

This diet will turn into a lifestyle. You will be motivated to get active, sleep more, focus better, and be happier overall. This starts with what you put into your body. So, finish up the last of the junk food in your fridge and pantry and get ready to give your kitchen a makeover.
You are going to feel your  personal best.
